Job Description

Process Safety Engineer is a key technical role within the VP HSE Organisation reporting directly to the COMPANY Team Leader Technical Safety. The position will provide support to the development and maintenance of fit for purpose Technical (i.e., Process) Safety Systems for the Project and future Operate phases of the BAB Gas Development Project.
The scope of the Process Safety Engineering role includes providing Technical Safety support to all Company Divisions on all activities carried out by or on behalf of the COMPANY, at assets under the direct or indirect control of COMPANY. This includes in-country (UAE) and overseas Project locations at both COMPANY & Contractor facilities.
The position will be responsible for the day to day execution of technical safety activities in accordance with assigned responsibilities and established performance targets.
The position will provide Technical Safety support for all phases of the Project (FEED through to Operations) and will be one of the Technical (Process Safety) Authorities for COMPANY.
As part of the Technical Safety section, the Process Safety Engineer’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
1.Assisting the COMPANY Technical Safety Manager in the development and delivery of fit for purpose Process Safety Management Systems;
2.Technical Authoring of COMPANY Technical Safety (i.e., Process Safety, Asset Integrity) documentation;
3.Reviewing Contractors and Vendors Technical Safety Plans & Procedures developed for the Project and Operate Phases;
4.Ensuring Design & Operated Performance Standards are developed and maintained for all HSE Critical Systems;
5.Ensuring the timely identification of HSE hazards, evaluation of risks for all activities and development of effective tools to manage and reduce these risks to ALARP;
6.Participate in HEMP studies/reviews i.e., HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, SIL etc.
7.Leading the development of H2S Management Systems and technical solutions;
8.Assisting the COMPANY Technical Safety Manager in the development of Operations Readiness & Assurance (OR&A) Technical Safety deliverables;
9.Ensuring compliance by all parties with COMPANY’s HSE requirements and regulations and all relevant legislation and statutory requirements, including all laws, rules and regulations (as amended from time to time) of the governments of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the U.A.E.;
10.Ensuring that the project is technically sound and optimally designed, engineered to appropriate standards and specifications, meeting required product specification and meeting HSE requirements;
11.Ensuring Process Safety principles and best practices are implemented early in the design phase and carried through to facility completion and Operation;
12.Ensuring effective management of change processes are implemented for process safety related changes during all phases of the project and operations;
13.Supporting individual work packages to ensure Competent COMPANY Process Safety input to design/ engineering studies;
14.COMPANY Process Safety Technical Authority as appropriate.
15.Supporting the development and implementation of a Process Safety Learning & Development Process;
16.Keeping abreast of industry best practice pertaining to Process Safety Asset Integrity;
17.Providing input to the collection of Lessons Learned for the project;
18.Providing Process Safety input to Annual HSE Management Reviews.

Skill set

A Bachelor’s or Master of Science degree in Process Safety, Chemical Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited university with minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience in the oil/gas industry. Experience on large-scale oil/gas and petrochemical capital projects preferred. Priority will be given to candidates with a strong background in the detailed design of sour gas (H2S) projects.
Has clearly demonstrated strong Process Safety Asset Integrity competencies.
Ability to work within a diverse cultural environment.

Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
